EWE Baskets Oldenburg are one of the teams that fell just short of the EuroChallenge Quarter-Final Play-Offs.

The German side, who were unbeaten in the first round of the EuroChallenge but lost to ZZ Leiden in a win-or-go-home game in the Last 16, parted ways with head coach Predrag Krunic shortly after their exit from the EuroChallenge.

The club promoted assistant coach Ralph Held to the driver's seat for the rest of the season, but was looking for a new head coach for the next season.

On Monday, Oldenburg announced Sebastian Machowski will be the man in charge for the next two campaigns, starting in the summer.

The 40-year old former Germany international currently is the head coach of league rivals New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig, where he spent the last three seasons.

"Sebastian Machowski has made a name for himself as a coach in a very short period of time," commented EWE Baskets general manager Hermann Schüller.

"He has set-up an excellent network, is doing a great job in Braunschweig and, in our eyes, is the perfect fit to implement our goals."

Machowski, who started his coaching career in Poland for Kotwica Kolobrzeg in 2008, had began his playing career for German powerhouse Alba Berlin before suiting up for several clubs in Germany and around Europe, including Tau Ceramica Vitoria.

"I am looking forward to the new challenge in Oldenburg," he said.

"EWE Baskets has created excellent working conditions in the last years, if nothing else, thanks to the training facilities.

"On top of that, there is the outlook of playing internationally on a regular basis."

Machowski is currently in seventh place in the Beko BBL (German League) with Braunschweig, while EWE Baskets find themselves just outside the play-offs in ninth.

The Phantoms will take on hosts Telekom Baskets Bonn in the German Cup Top Four semi-final on Saturday.
