BASKETBALL IN EUROPE
|Erman Kunter, who led Cholet into the semi-finals of the French league this season, will take over at Besiktas from Ergin Ataman |
Ergin Ataman steered Besiktas to the Beko Basketbol Ligi title and into the Turkish Airlines Euroleague.
Now Erman Kunter, the former Cholet boss, will be at the helm of Besiktas as they try to make inroads in the top European club competition.
With Ataman having decided to leave Besiktas after their treble winning season when they also captured the Turkish Cup and EuroChallenge and instead take over Galatasaray, Kunter has jumped at the chance to Besiktas for the second time in his career.
The aim is to retain the Turkish Cup and league title, and also make it to the Quarter-Finals of the Euroleague.
A former player at the club as well, Kunter says Besiktas will try to develop young players as his Cholet side did in France.
At Cholet, Nando de Colo, Rodrigue Beaubois and Kevin Seraphin all developed under the watchful eye of Kunter.
"I give great importance to the infrastructure," Kunter said.
"I worked in France and opened the way for all young players.
"I will also continue to do the same thing at Besiktas, and that is not the slightest problem."
