The 19-year-old Swiss international Clint Capela delivered at the weekend his credentials as one of the biggest talents in Europe with a record-breaking performance in the French Pro A League.

Capela registered an outlandish efficiency index rating of 41 in Elan Chalon's 95-75 win at home over Roanne, which is the highest-rated performance by any player aged 20 or less in the French top flight since the turn of the century.

In order to reach that landmark, the Swiss forward/center who turns 20 in May poured in 21 points on 9-of-13 from the floor, collected a game-high nine rebounds, seven assists and also came up with two steals and drew six fouls against Roanne.

"We can say he is a little monster, he is 19 and he had a rating of 41," Chalon coach Jean-Denys Choulet said affectionately after the game.

"I think he did everything he wanted in the paint during the second half, there was nobody else that could score a basket inside, he was everywhere.

"The cherry on the cake is that he also made shots from outside, on which he has been working intensively with my assistant Romain Chenaud during the last month-and-a-half.

"I have been on his case for this long-range shooting, he comes every day before practice to work on that and he needs to make 300 shots per week.

"I am glad he made them tonight [Saturday] because it is an extra arrow he can add to his quiver."

Tony Parker was the previous holder of the record thanks to an efficiency rating of 38 in one of his last games in a Paris Racing jersey before departing for San Antonio in May 2001, when the was 18 years and 11 months old.

Another star of EuroBasket champions France, Nicolas Batum, had reached a rating of 33 in May 2008, two months after turning 19.

Capela is averaging 7.9 points, six rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 1.1 assists so far this season in the Pro A, having more than doubled his average stat lines from last year.

The mobile 2.08m Swiss big man with the enormous wingspan had given fair warning last summer of his intentions to turn this into a break-out season in his career.

Clint Capela is expected to play fro Switzerland in the 2nd Qualification Round this summer

In his first appearance with the senior national team, Capela averaged 12.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per game to propel Switzerland to top spot in Group C of the EuroBasket 2015 1st Qualification Round, although the Swiss fell to Bulgaria in the semi-finals.

Capela had first attracted attention with his performances at the U16 European Championship Division B in 2009, as he averaged 12.2 points and 8.2 rebounds for Switzerland despite the fact he was still 15.

Chalon took notice and brought him over to France to join their youth team the following year, with his meteoric rise allowing him to quickly join the senior team.

In stark contrast to Capela and Chalon, this weekend in the Pro A was one to forget for EuroChallenge participants JDA Dijon.

Dijon suffered a compelling 74-65 loss at Le Mans and could be knocked off the top of the standings for the first time since November, should co-leaders Orleans win their game in hand on Tuesday, away at fellow EuroChallenge side Cholet.

Andre Harris and Mykal Riley were the only two Dijon players to score in double digits on Saturday as they collected 11 points apiece.

To complete Dijon's woeful weekend, Riley picked up a knock and had to step off the court right after the start of the fourth quarter.

The American swingman will undergo medical tests later this week to determine the extend of his injury.
