The Faurie Files: Only Two Tickets Up For Grabs
What a Saturday evening that was... Israel, Lithuania, Serbia and Hungary added their names to the nine team-roster qualified for EuroBasket 2009 in Latvia. Turkey, Poland, France, Slovakia and Greece had already secured their qualifications.

The most exciting situation was between Ukraine and Hungary. Fegyverneky and her team-mates finally booked the last ticket, as the best third place team.

What a day! I was checking, Wednesday, the situation in the EuroBasket Women 2009 Qualifying Groups. Then I thought "okay, I'll finish that tomorrow morning."

There is an unbelievable and exciting ‘mess' regarding qualification in each group. Whereas some teams are certain to travel to Latvia next year, some others are in for a Saturday night fever, after the last group games are played...

Year after year, the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia has come close to booking a place at the EuroBasket only to fall short.

Now, the Balkan country have their best-ever chance of reaching next year's Final Round in Poland after shooting to the top of Group B in Division A with Saturday's 80-78 home win over Latvia.

Good News, Bad News: Baltic Squads Come Up Big

The Final Four picture is now complete after Barons LMT Riga and Tartu Rock - two representatives from the Baltic region, completed a big season with home wins in game three.

Once again no team managed to come back from 1-0, and BC Kyiv remains the only club in the EuroCup history that was successful in turning the tide. Both Barons and Tartu will celebrate their first ever semi-finals appearance in a European competition.

Good News, Bad News: Two Seats Remaining

Fifty percent of the EuroCup Final Four picture has come into focus, with Proteas EKA AEL and Dexia Mons-Hainaut scoring big road wins in Eastern Europe and knocking out Khimik and CSK-VVS Samara.

The other two spots will be decided next week when Tartu Rock host Ural Great after the former managed a 14-0 run to score a 68-61 win this week and KK Zagreb hit 11 three-pointers at over 60% for the game to knock off Barons LMT and force a deciding game three.
