The 7th Secretaries General Meeting & 4th Seminar for National Federations is off to a constructive start after a highly productive first day concluded on Saturday in Munich.
The annual meeting sees the Secretaries General of FIBA Europe national federation members gathering in the German city to discuss ideas and compare practices.
As soon as FIBA Europe President Olafur Rafnsson and FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin had welcomed participants, it was already time for an emotional moment and the biggest applause of the day.
Mr Rafnsson and Mr Zanolin presented the Belgian Federation Secretary General Paul De Coster with the Commissioner Award, in recognition of his contribution to European basketball.
Mr De Coster has retired after a long and highly successful career as Commissioner, one of the posts in which he served the sport for a number of years.
Next on the agenda was an update on technology related advances.
FIBA Europe IT Manager Nick Marzoli presented the online eligibility system, the FIBA Europe stats suite and the communication platform, while he also discussed with participants the results of the recent IT survey and outlined future projects related to the field.

The in-depth presentation that followed, by Wales Federation President William Jones and Director of Officiating Haydn Jones, focused on negative and positive aspects of the administration of a national federation, from the perspective of a "small country".
Women's Basketball was the next topic on the agenda. FIBA Europe Women's Basketball Consultant Esther Wender delivered a speech with several focus areas, including game uniforms, promotional efforts to better market EuroLeague Women, and off the court activities where players and/or teams can make a positive social impact.
Carmen Tocala, President of the Romanian Basketball Federation, further expanded on this last topic in her presentation about Social Activities that were organised by the National Federation of Romania.
Following each presentation, the participants formed smaller working groups in order to further analyse the issues that were risen and then gave a short summary of their discussion results back to the audience.
The two-day 7th Secretaries General Meeting & 4th Seminar comes to a close Sunday.
