Former Greek national team player Giorgos Kolokythas, 67, passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Considered to be one of Greece's greatest ever players, and in fact one of the greatest in the world - as acknowledged by his inclusion on FIBA's 50 Greatest Players list in 1991 - Kolokythas played in three European Championships.

The center was the top-scorer at EuroBasket in 1967 (26.7 points-per-game), before repeating the feat again two years later (23.5 points-per-game).

Kolokythas was just as prolific at scoring on the domestic scene, leading the Greek League in points-per-game on three occasions. Playing for Sporting and Panathinaikos, the Greek legend finished his career with four Greek League titles.

After retiring as a player, Kolokythas remained involved in basketball for the remainder of his life. At the time of his death, he was serving as general manager of the Greek national team, and a Greek Federation vice-president.
