Ruling on Appeal of Ekaterinburg Case

The decision, in the first instance, made by the FIBA Europe Judge to disqualify UMMC Ekaterinburg from the EuroLeague Women for use of ineligible players has been upheld by the judge appointed by the Appeals Commission.

Ekaterinburg was given the right to appeal, which they exercised. The appeal was heard on 16th March 2004 in Munich, Germany in front of the judge nominated by the FIBA Europe Appeals Commission.

The Appeals judge’s decision is as follows:

1. “The Appeal is dismissed as far as the disqualification of the club UMMC Ekaterinburg is concerned.”
2. “The Appeal is upheld as far as the fine imposed on the Appellant is concerned. The amount of the fine is to be reduced to EUR 15,000.”

A detailed report of the judge’s ruling will be made available as soon as it is received by FIBA Europe.

As a result of this decision, the EuroLeague Women 2004 Final Four participants are as follows:

Lotos VBW Clima Gdynia (POL)
US Valenciennes Olympic (FRA)
MiZo Pecs VSK (HUN)
Gambrinus JME Brno (CZE)

Final Four

FIBA Europe has decided that the Final Four will take place on 16th and 18th April 2004 in Pecs, Hungary.

The following clubs have qualified and will play in the semi-finals:

Gambrinus JME Brno v. Lotos VBW Clima Gdynia
MiZo Pecs VSK v. USVO Valenciennes Olympic
