Kosice Mull Over Russian Option

EuroLeague Women outfit Good Angels Kosice are considering the possibility of playing in the Russian league next season.

The Slovakian giants, who compete in the EuroLeague Women, are taking a serious look at an opportunity that has been presented to them by Russian basketball officials.

"The first indication was when a Russian agent called and asked if we'd envisage playing in the Russian league," Kosice general manager Daniel Jendrichovsky said.

"For us it was pretty funny.

"But the secretary of the Russian federation then spoke to us about the framework and basic conditions.

"At that time it was pretty funny but we started to seriously think about it."

"It's terribly complicated and it is now only theoretical," he added. "It's very tempting ..."

It may be theoretical, but Kosice are taking a good look at the opportunity.

They have already gauged interest among potential sponsors.

"We've started negotiations with companies that want (Kosice) to play in Russia," Jendrichovsky said.

"For them, this idea is very interesting."

Kosice expect to know more by the end of the month.

One possibility if the club were to play in Russia is that junior players would received a lot of minutes for the Slovakian domestic league games.
