|Alessandro Gentile, a versatile guard-forward, is a candidate for the Young Men European Player of the Year award |
Italian powerhouse Emporio Armani Milano announced on Saturday that it has secured the services of exciting young prospect Alessandro Gentile.
The 19-year-old, until recently at Benetton Treviso, has signed a contract until 2015 with the Milano club.
The 2.00m tall guard is a candidate for the European Player of the Year award, in the Young Men category.
Gentile was a driving force behind Italy's great run to the U20 European Championship final this summer and a member of the All Tournament Team, averaging 18.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest .
"It gives us great joy to welcome Alessandro to the Olimpia Milano family," said the club General Manager Gianluca Pascucci.
"The name Gentile belongs to the history and, now with Alessandro, also to the present and future of our club," he added.
Alessandro's father, Nando, a EuroBasket 1991 silver medallist, was a formidable point guard who won the Italian league and cup double with Olimpia Milano in 1996, before joining Panathinaikos to also win the Euroleague title four years later.
Gentile had an important role at Treviso, averaging 12.8 points in 27.6 minutes of play in the league and everyone in Italy is eager to see how he will fit at Olimpia, where expectations are running high this season.
Emporio Armani are currently top of the table in Italy and still in the mix for a spot in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Last 16.
