Turkey has been the site of some great basketball tournaments over the years, including EuroBasket 2001, EuroBasket Women 2005 and the 2010 World Championship.

A big youth event, the Turk Telekom International Tournament for U16 Men, was held in Sakarya from 28 January to 5 February.

The lucky ones in attendance looked through a window to the future.

Eleven of the 12 teams that took part were European.

They were Poland, Germany, France, Latvia, Poland, Serbia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Russia, Slovenia and hosts Turkey.

The only non-European nation to play, Egypt, won the title.

The Egyptians' Ehab Saleh earned MVP honors after leading the tournament with averages of 19.8 points and 3.9 steals.
