Poland Hosts U15, U17 SuperFinals

BASKETBALL IN EUROPE

The city of Czluchow in north-western Poland played host to the SuperFinals of the U17 Eastern Europe Girls Basketball League (EEGBL) and the U15 European Youth Basketball League (EYBL) at the weekend.

The eight U17 Girls teams that had qualified from the previous three stages of the league competed in the 2012 EEGBL SuperFinal.

Estonian side SC Audentes Tallinn defeated the Latvians of Kolibri Riga in the final, 67-62, to claim the trophy.

The Estonians were led by tournament MVP Kadri - Ann Lass, who finished with 24 points on 60 per cent shooting from the floor in the title game.

An impressive Kate Kreslina had 34 points for Riga in the losing effort.

Nine U15 Boys teams from Lithuania, Russia, Spain, Poland and the Ukraine reached the 2012 EYBL SuperFinal after a very long season that included three stages in three different countries each.

On Sunday, the Sarunas Marciulionis school prevailed in a spectacular first place game over the CSKA Moscow youth team, 88-74.

Five players on the Vilnius team scored in double digits in the final, with Jokubas Švambaris earning tournament MVP honours.

The Lithuanian player had 19 points and six rebounds in the title game for the champions, while Mikhail Frolov led the Russian side with 23 points.

The SuperFinal tournaments were organized by the regional Pomerania Basketball Federation.
