31 October 2007
Good crowds and exciting basketball were the highlights of the first ever Belgian Season Opening Weekend, organised in Spa, in the Belgian Ardennes, last weekend.

The event, which included the first five games of the new league season, was under the auspices of the Year of Women's Basketball initiative by FIBA Europe.

All games were played in the La Fraineuse sports complex where the teams were also accommodated.

IMC Waregem, last season's runner-up, came up winners 60-49 agaist Novia Munalux Namur, who next week start their EuroCup Women campaign group with Nadezhda Orenburg, CAB Madeira and Tarbes.

St. Katelijne Waver, runner-up and cup finalist two seasons ago, won 78-60 against the newly promoted Royal Spirou Monceau. Dexia Namur, the champion who are in their fourth season in Euroleague Women, faced little opposition in beating the other newly promoted club, Houthalen 106-46. Boom beat Runkster 76-57 and Point Chaud Sprimont won over Kortrijk Sport 83-61.

All teams received DVDs of the games played, the players received gifts from a perfume partner and photos were distributed to fans. A gala dinner for the sponsors was organized at the Formula 1’s circuit of Spa-Francorchamps.
