Giovanni Petrucci was elected as President of the Italian Basketball Federation

On Saturday, the 44th General Assembly of the Italian Basketball Federation (FIP) elected Giovanni Petrucci as President.

The 67-year-old received 94.78% of the votes and was elected for a four-year cycle.

Petrucci is a familiar face in Italian sports. In the past, he held the office of Secretary General (1977-1985) and President (1992-1999) in the Italian Basketball Federation, and was as well Secretary General of the Italian Football Federation (1985-1991).

Most recently he served as the President of the Italian National Olympic Committee, a post he held for as many as 14 years.

Petrucci succeeds Italian basketball legend Dino Meneghin.

Meneghin had replaced Fausto Maifredi in autumn 2008, and was officially voted President of FIP in February 2009.
