EUROPEAN ROUNDUP

Jonas Valanciunas (Lithuania)
Another day, another award for Lithuania international Jonas Valanciunas, who won the Eurocup Rising Star trophy and was also named as the VTB League regular season Player of the Year by fans

Jonas Valanciunas scooped another honour this week when the Lietuvos Rytas center was voted as the fans' choice for the VTB United League regular season Player of the Year.

The competition's website ran a poll and Valanciunas, the 2011 FIBA Europe Young Men's Player of the Year, topped the voting.

The 19-year-old leads the league in rebounding with eight per game, and blocked shots (1.75).

Valanciunas was the player of the month for February.

His play has also caught the eye in another competition.

After helping fire Lietuvos Rytas into the Eurocup Finals, the teen was named as the recipient of the Rising Star Trophy.

Previous winners include his compatriot Donatas Motiejunas (2010-11, Benetton Treviso), Victor Claver (2009-10, Valencia Basket) and Milan Macvan (2008-09, KK Hemofarm).

EUROCUP FINAL FOUR

Valanciunas is still in the hunt for a European title this season. Lietuvos Rytas will square off against Valencia Basket in one of the Eurocup semi-finals and BC Khimki will meet Spartak Saint Petersburg in the other.

Both games are to be played at the Basketball Center of Moscow Region, Khimki, on 14 April.

The title game will be played the next day.

All four teams won their respective quarter-finals in two games.

Valencia downed KK Buducnost, Lietuvos Rytas beat BC Donetsk, Spartak overcame CEZ Nymburk and Khimki prevailed against Lokomotiv Kuban in the quarter-final play-offs

BALTIC LEAGUE FINAL FOUR

VEF Riga, Zalgiris Kaunas, Lietuvos Rytas and Siauliai will take part in the Baltic League Final Four.

Siauliai lost the first game of their quarter-final tie to Triumph Lyubertsy but then advanced after the Russian team withdrew because of scheduling conflicts.

Triumph will be at the EuroChallenge Final Four with Elan Chalon, Besiktas and Szolnoki Olaj.

Ventspils, who lost 2-1 to Szolnoki in their last-eight tie in the EuroChallenge, fell 2-0 to Lietuvos Rytas in the quarter-finals of the Baltic League.

VEF Riga stayed in the hunt for the Baltic title with a 2-1 series win against Estonians Kalev/Cramo and Zalgiris advanced after a 2-1 series triumph over Rudupis.
