|Chalon's Blake Schilb was unstoppable in Game 2 of the quarter-finals, with 27 points on 9-for-12 from the floor and eight assists |
EuroChallenge finalists Elan Chalon swept Roanne in their best-of-three play-off series to punch their ticket to the French Pro A league semi-finals.
Chalon, who had easily prevailed 91-70 in the first game at home on Wednesday, won on the road, 85-74, on Saturday night.
The away win came just when everything seemed to indicate they could not avoid heading back home for a tie-breaking third game.
Gregor Beugnot's side, who were trailing Roanne during the entire game, entered the fourth quarter with a six-point deficit.
However, Chalon allowed their opponents only eight points in the final stanza while they scored 25 of their own thanks to an inspirational effort by Blake Schilb on the offensive end.
The American guard/forward had 27 points on 9-for-12 shooting from the field and eight assists.
Abdul Aminu finished with 9 points and nine rebounds while Malcolm Delaney scored 10 and Ilian Evtimov added nine points.
Gani Lawal had 14 points for Roanne, who can at least feel relieved that they wont have to face their nemesis anymore until the new season.
Chalon knocked out Luka Pavicevic's team from the EuroChallenge, the French Cup and now the league.
The EuroChallenge finalists will meet Orleans, that eliminated Paris-Levallois also in two games, in the semi-finals.
The series begins on Friday while Tuesday will see the third and final games of the two still unresolved quarter-final series.
Gravelines-Dunkerque host Cholet and Le Mans are at home to Nancy, with the winners of both games also clinching a spot in the last four.
