Georgios Dikeoulakos played a crucial role for Greece at the EuroBasket Women in Riga, helping them finish fifth to earn a spot at the FIBA World Championship in the Czech Republic.
The Greek assistant coach made quite a good impression because Latvia have made Dikeoulakos one of their three main targets in their search for a new women's national team coach.
The position has been vacant since Ainars Zvirgzdins stepped down following the Latvians' disappointing seventh-place finish last June.
Dikeoulakos and Greece head coach Kostas Missas followed up the impressive tournament in the Baltics by coaching the country to the gold medal at the U20 European Championship for Men in Rhodes.
Dikeoulakos is currently coaching Sony Athinaikos in Greece's top flight, and the EuroCup Women.
Italian Fabio Fossati and former Ros Casares coach Manolo Real are the other two leading candidates for the Latvia job.
