There's no denying it. 3x3 basketball is increasing in popularity rapidly in the Netherlands. With seven of the 10 rounds of Streetball Masters 2013 completed, 350 teams have already taken to the courts in this popular Dutch playground basketball tour.

Streetball Masters Amsterdam, the first tournament, immediately set the tone for a successful season with 64 teams on the day, followed up by Almelo with 31 teams. Breda, new on the tour, beat everybody's expectations, coming up with - at that time - a record number of 65 teams on the idyllic Kasteelplein. There, in the heart of the historic centre, you could see and smell the ‘urban' atmosphere, that's so typical for Streetball Masters.

But the new Dutch record did not stand long. The small village of Barneveld (27 teams) and Goes (40 teams), impressed as newcomers, but the best was yet to come. Saturday 15th June was an historic day for 3x3 basketball in the Netherlands. Streetball Masters Utrecht featured a record setting 86 teams, competing for the title and a spot in the finals in The Hague later in the summer. The 33 teams in Meppel and the 46 teams in Heerenveen boosted the total number of competing teams in Streetball Masters 2013 to over 400, including the teams that have already signed up for the last two rounds.

The increasing popularity of 3x3 basketball is also evident in social media, which is used to spread Streetball Masters news. With over 400 followers on Twitter (www.twitter.com/sbm3x3) and 1000 + likes on Facebook (www.facebook.com/streetballmasters).

Next up in Streetball Masters 2013 is Woudrichem (6 July) and the 3x3 EuroTour 2013 Streetball Masters The Hague (27 July) qualifying round. Players can still register for both events by visiting www.streetballmasters.nl. The big final, 3x3 EuroTour 2013 Streetball Masters Finals, will be held in The Hague as well, on Sunday 28th July. It will be organised by FIBA Europe in conjunction with the Netherlands Basketball Federation and local streetball organisation from the Hague, ST4R. In the elite men category there are tickets to be won to the 3x3 EuroTour Final in Budapest (Hungary) and the FIBA World Tour Masters in Lausanne (Switzerland).
