Romanian 3x3 basketball is looking back on a spectacular and successful season, having hosted some of Europe's finest competitions.
The success of the events was closely connected to promoter Sport Arena Streetball, who entered its 10th season, being a household name in Romania and beyond.
Bucharest hosted two of the biggest 3x3 basketball events from Europe this summer, the 3x3 EuroTour Sport Arena Streetball, with more than 300 teams at the start of the competition and the Raiffeisen Bank Bucharest Challenger by Sport Arena Streetball, featuring some of the best teams from Europe, including the 2012 World Champions and eventual winners from Novi Sad, Serbia.
Taking place in front of the Palace of Parliament, the second largest building in the world, the 3x3 EuroTour Sport Arena Streetball was the showcase tournament for the International Olympic Committee.
Ivan Mainini, FIBA president, Patrick Baumann, FIBA Secretary General, Bob Elphinston, FIBA Oceania President and former FIBA President and Walter Sieber, member of the IOC Programme Commission attended the event in Bucharest, together with more than 10,000 people.
Three basketball legends were also in Bucharest to support the 3x3 basketball on its way to the Olympic stage.
Jorge Garbajosa, Olympic medalist, World and European champion, Sarunas Marciulionis, Olympic and European champion and Vlade Divac, Olympic medalist and World and European Champion enjoyed from the stands or from the court, the case of Divac, the tournament organised by Sport Arena Streetball in cooperation with the Romanian Basketball Federation.
It was the kind of competition that even the Romanian prime minister, Victor Ponta, however a huge basketball fan, didn't want it to miss.
He put on his basketball shoes and played in the Celebrity Game, together with Divac and the legends of the Romanian National Football Team.
And with the best acrobatic dunkers from Europe flying way above the rim, and the best dunkers from all over the world lightning up a dunk contest for the ages, won by the Canadian Justin Darlington, 3x3 EuroTour Sport Arena Streetball was a magnificent show.
It does not stop here, as Romania had further highlights on offer, the Raiffeisen Bank Bucharest Challenger, serving as a qualifier for the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Prague, and the Quest setting the bar high for the 2014 season.
