FIBA Europe 3on3
|The 2012 FIBA Europe 3on3 Tour comes to an end on Saturday in Budapest and it promises to go out in the usual spectacular fashion|
The 2012 FIBA Europe 3on3 Tour has been a phenomenal success.
It included 12 stops all over Europe, from the Spanish island of Gran Canaria to Moscow.
The Russian capital stop in particular saw the FIBA Europe 3on3 Tour break every conceivable record, with 411 teams competing on 42 courts in a total of 822 games during the course of one single day.
This unprecedented Tour that brought the 3on3 experience all around Europe comes to an end on Saturday, in the very heart of the continent.
FIBA Europe 3on3 have teamed up with Streetball Challenge and the Hungarian Basketball Federation to host the last stop in this calendar year's schedule in Budapest.
The occasion has triple significance, as it not only marks the end of the 2012 Tour but also the 100th anniversary of the Hungarian Basketball Federation and the 20th anniversary of Streetball Challenge in Hungary.
The site of Városligeti Műjégpálya close to the Heroes' Square in the Hungarian capital will provide the stage.
The organizers aim to introduce 3on3 to a wider public and attract interest to basketball in particular among the youth, especially as 3on3 will form part of school and university sport competitions in Hungary from this season onwards.
They expect to host between 200 and 250 teams in a total of 15 categories (U12, U14, U16, U18, U23, born between 1978-1988, born before 1977 for both genders and a mixed category).
The competition schedule includes among others:
Streetball 3x3 for U23 categories (10 age categories)
Streetball Classic for players over 23 (5 age categories)
In both these competitions, the Qualifiers will take place on Saturday morning and the Finals in the afternoon.
The eight teams that will participate in the Finals in each of these two tournaments will include the winners of the previous stops of the event and the winners of the morning qualifiers in Budapest morning.
3x3 Centenary Cup for U18 teams
3x3 Centenary Cup for Budapest U club teams
3x3 Centenary Cup for County Championship Winners
As in every FIBA Europe 3on3 event, the organisers have prepared surprises on and off the court with participation of popular athletes and special entertainment acts.
Teams that wish to enrol in either Streetball 3x3 or Streetball Classic may do so until Thursday midnight on www.streetballnet.hu.
