On Friday the first day of the 3on3 Gran Canaria Tour master final took place in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Spain.

At the Alfredo Kraus auditorium on the Plaza de la Música (music square), 50 teams took the seven courts in three categories.

Game action commenced at 16:00 with a total of 87 being played until 20:30 when the final buzzer sounded.

Just like throughout the entire 3on3 Gran Canaria Tour, the athletes and spectators were entertained by cheerleaders in game breaks.

The dance group of the first division club Gran Canaria 2014 showed their skills, rounding the atmosphere for the more than 1,000 spectators.

In sunny weather, all visitors could also profit from the concert of Vetusa Morla, a popular Spanish music group, who played on the beach right next to the 3on3 action.

FIBA Europe Head of Operations Miguel Betancor was on sight to get a picture of the success of the project.

"The 3on3 Gran Canaria Tour must be considered a huge success" stated Mr Betancor.

"All events on the island were organised perfectly and the response of participants and spectators was great throughout.

"The master final in Las Palmas is the peak of the entire tour and the reward of for all the players who gave everything to make it here," he concluded.

The Gran Canaria tour, an initiative of the Council (Cabildo) of Gran Canaria, started out as a side event that was held in conjunction with the FIBA Europe Techno Centre official opening on 24 February.

The initiative that has developed in a tour of five events had the full support of the Municipality of Las Palmas and the University of Gran Canaria, who are also patrons of the Techno Centre.

The Cabildo financed the event in full and requested the assistance of FIBA Europe 3on3 Manager Robert Rieblinger in organising it.

On Saturday games will continue in the afternoon while the morning was reserved for 150 local pupils who had their sports classes moved outdoors.

The youngsters seemingly enjoyed the experience and one or the other was for sure infected with the 3on3 virus.

Saturday afternoon will not only see the competition peak in the final games but also determine the winners of both the three-point shoot-out and the dunk contest.
