Very often sport and song goes hand in hand.
In the heat of game action stadiums and arenas are alive with music as fans cheer on their favorite team, and few things are as inspiring as the playing of a countries national anthem before an international match.
Well now members of the FIBA Europe family, be they clubs or national federations, will have a song of their very own.
FIBA Europe announced on Wednesday that a new official FIBA Europe Song would debut at EuroBasket Women 2009 in Latvia on 11th June.
"We worked hard to try to come up with a song that encapsulates the emotion and passion of basketball in Europe." commented FIBA Europe President George Vassilakopoulos.
Developed over nearly a year with the help of Munich-based audio marketing firm Music Message AG, the song will be used before, during and after games and as a general theme at FIBA Europe events.
"Music is one of the most effective ways there is to communicate with fans and players alike," said FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin.
"We represent 51 different countries and our members speak many different languages but everyone understands the language of music."
