Coaching Website: Pesic On Transition Offense

28 January 2010

When someone says that coaching is a ‘full-time' job you can be sure they mean it.

Not only does the work of a professional basketball coach extend beyond the limits of the actual season, it also extends past the final buzzer and outside the gym.  Coaches are always working; always looking for an edge. Be it in a brightly lit gym or a darkened home office they know that the more they can learn about the game they love the better.

For those coaches the FIBA Europe Coaching Website is the perfect tool to not only share ideas and manage their materials, but also to get advice and counsel from some of the best coaches in Europe.

Case in point is the newest video on the site featuring the legendary coach and FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate Mentor Svetislav Pesic discussing transition offense.

Pesic, addressing a crowd of coaches at the 2008 Kusadasi Coach Clinic in Turkey, reminded those on hand that though there is not a player or a coach in the world who doesn't like to play fast break basketball, liking it and knowing how to execute it are two very different things.

"Basketball is a game of rhythm," said Pesic.

"I've never seen a team win a championship playing only fast break basketball, but I have seen plenty that won a championship because they know what they want to do in each moment, and they control the rhythm of the game."

The video is one of many on the FIBA Europe Coaching Website, including a discussion of spacing and offensive rotation with Gordon Herbert, and a talk on defense given by former Spain Head Coach Pepu Hernandez.

The website also allows coaches to plan their own practices, learn and share plays and drills, and post their CV for employers.
