FIBA Europe Mourns Passing Of Jacobsen

01 July 2008

FIBA Europe was saddened to learn this week of the passing of the President of the Swedish Basketball Federation Jan Jacobsen at the age of 56.

Jacobsen was elected President of the federation in 2005 after being named to the board just a year earlier.  He also served as President of the Stockholm-based youth club Lidingö during his life-long affiliation with the sport.

"He was not the kind of person who needed to be seen," commented Lena Wallin Kantzy the Secretary General of the Swedish Basketball Federation.

"He was a really hard worker and didn't mind getting his hands dirty at the ground level."

Away from the basketball court Jacobsen spent 25 years as Director of Finance at the highly successful clothing company H&M.

He is survived by a wife and two children, aged 20 and 22.
