The organizers of EuroBasket 2009 in Poland on Saturday released their official logo as the countdown begins to the event, which will be contested in September of 2009.
The design was created by Ms. Katrzyna Kudel of Gutenberg Design with the intention of incorporating the sport, the colours of Poland and the emotion of the game.
"The logo is very attractive and will certainly serve as a great symbol for this exciting event," said FIBA Europe President George Vassilakopoulos.
"The kind of creativity and passion that went into designing it is one of the reasons why we think Poland will be such a great host."
"The logo is very dynamic and I think relates the free flowing style and the excitement of basketball and of EuroBasket," commented FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin.
"I've spent a lot of time in Poland in the last few months and I'm very happy with the progress, from the event logo to the arenas, this will be a top class event."
The logo was unveiled over the weekend by Roman Ludwiczuk, the President of the Polish federation.
"We are so proud to be hosting EuroBasket 2009," said Mr. Ludwiczuk.
"It is our hope that the presentation of the official logo provides an appropriate kick off to the excitement surrounding the event."
EuroBasket 2009 will take place in seven Polish cities with Gdansk, Poznan, Warsaw and Wroclaw hosting the preliminary round, Bydgoszcz and Lodz the qualifying round and Katowice the final round.
Qualifying for the event begins on 20 August with the draw taking place on 16 February in Venice, Italy.
