18 March 2008

The Board of FIBA Europe has chosen Poland as the organisers of EuroBasket Women 2011. The decision was taken during the Board's recent assembly in Bucharest, Romania on 15th and 16th March.

The event will take place in the cities of Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia.

The three cities are all situated on the Baltic Sea coast and they are in close proximity to each other. The farthest distance between any two of the proposed venues is less than 7 km.

All three cities will host games in the preliminary round with the qualifying and final round to be played in a new 15,000 spectator arena at the Sopot and Gdansk border.

"We are very happy with the decision," commented FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin. "We are sure that the Polish will be excellent hosts and the event will be a tremendous success."

EuroBasket Women 2009 will take place in Latvia while Poland will organise the 2009 men's event, in the cities of Gdansk, Poznan, Warsaw, Wroclaw, Lodz, Bydgoszcz and Katowice.
