Clubs Replaced In European Competitions

FIBA Europe has confirmed that Benetton Basket, as the next possible Italian club, will replace Capo D' Orlando in the group of teams already qualified for the EuroCup Regular Season.

The games Benetton Fribourg Olympic vs. Benetton Basket home and away games in Qualifying Round I of the EuroCup are now cancelled.

Swiss club Benetton Fribourg Olympic qualify automatically for Qualifying Round II of the EuroCup where they will now meet Kalise Gran Canaria on November 4 and 11, 2008.

An Italian Olympic Committee tribunal rejected Capo D' Orlando's appeal against a decision of the Italian Basketball Federation to revoke the club's first division licence. As a result Capo D' Orlando also lost the right to participate in European competitions.

BC Dnipro removed from EuroCup Women

FIBA Europe has also announced that the women's club BC Dnipro have been removed from the EuroCup Women 2009.

BC Dnipro has decided not to participate in the National Championship of Ukraine for the 2008-09 season. According to the FIBA Europe Bye-Laws and Regulations the sport's European governing body of the sport cannot support clubs who do not participate in the official competitions of their national federations.

BC Dnipro was originally drawn in Group L of the EuroCup Women 2009 Preliminary Round. Its place in Group L will now be taken by Estonian club BC Star-TLÜ.
