|Deven Mitchell scored 16 points on Tuesday night to help Gaz Metan Medias go 2 and 0|
Gaz Metan Medias have squeezed out a hard-fought 70-68 win over Tartu Rock in Group D EuroChallenge action in Estonia on Tuesday night.
The game went down right to the wire as Tartu's Egidijus Dimsa deliberately missed a free throw in the hope of an offensive rebound with one second left, but Deven Mitchell grabbed the loose ball to preserve the win.
Medias had watched an eight-point lead disappear as Tartu tied it up at 65-65 with 86 seconds left, setting up a tense finish.
Slobodan Dundjerski put Medias back in front with a three-pointer 30 seconds out from full time, and Justin Ingram missed a three for Tartu, instead hitting a pair of free throws following Rares Mandache's turnover.
Ivan Ivanovic held his nerve at the line to make it 70-67 to Medias with eight ticks left and Tartu then blew a couple of chances to force overtime at the end.
Ingram missed another three, and then Valmo Kriisa missed a pair of free throws, the second deliberately to get the rebound.
Get it they did, but Dimsa could not take full advantage thanks to Mitchell's rebound.
Michael St. John led Medias with 17 points while Mitchell had 16.
Dimsa led Tartu with 15 points while Ingram added 14 and Kristo Saage 11.
It is Tartu's second defeat in as many EuroChallenge games while Medias move to 2-0.
