Edirne Clinch First Victory Against Okapi

EUROCHALLENGE

Olin Edirne at last won a game in the EuroChallenge with a 92-86 triumph over Okapi Aalstar on Wednesday evening.

With no chance of progressing to the Last 16, the Turkish club made sure they wouldn't go through the entire competition without giving their fans a taste of victory.

After blowing a 16-point lead early in the second quarter and going to the fourth down by four, Edirne rediscovered their best form.

Trailing 77-76 with 5:27 to play, Edirne got two free-throws from Vladimir Stimac and a basket from Christopher Wright to go in front to stay.

Recent signing Filip Videnov helped them clinch victory when hitting a three-ball with 4:07 to go for an 83-79 advantage.

When Okapi closed the gap to 86-83 just 1:39 from the end, the Belgian club fouled Stimac and he went to the line and made two free-throws.

Stimac finished with a game-high 35 points while Christopher Copeland scored 29 in defeat.

Stefan Jackson also had a big game for Okapi with 18 points and 12 boards.

While Edirne improved to 1-4, Okapi fell to 2-3.

Because of their win against ETHA Engomi (3-2) last month, a victory next week at ETHA in Cyprus would be enough to see the Aalst club through to the Last 16.
