Okur, Türk Telekom Dominate Minsk

22 November 2011

Turk Telekom clinched their first win of the 2011-12 EuroChallenge in convincing style on Tuesday, rolling to victory at BC "Minsk-2006".

The Turks travelled to Belarus on the back of defeats to Pinar Karsiyaka and Telekom Baskets Bonn but dominated on the boards and prevailed, 93-74.

The visitors out-rebounded Minsk, 49-32.  Fourteen of those boards were claimed by Mehmet Okur, who also had 18 points.

Darius Washington finished with a game-high 28 points and six assists for the winners.

Big man Ali Karadeniz also had solid game for the Ankara outfit as well with 18 points and six boards.

While Turk Telekom improved to 1-2, Minsk fell to 2-1.

The hosts were on top 31-30 in the second quarter after their best player so far this season, Aliaksandr Kudrautsau, knocked down a jumper.

Kudrautsau had poured in 24 and 22 points, respectively, in his team's two Group G wins.

Turk Telekom didn't allow him to do any damage the rest of the way.

After his jumper, Bekir Yarangüme connected from the arc and Karadeniz followed with fast-break jump shot for a 35-31 Turk Telekom lead.

Washington was next with two free-throws and then back-to-back baskets from Ceyhun Altay forced Minsk to call a timeout.

Minsk slowed Turk Telekom down, but only briefly.

With a 46-38 lead at half-time, Turk Telekom emerged from the changing rooms for the third quarter and outscored the hosts 27-16 for a 73-54 stranglehold.

Washington had seven points in the penultimate frame for Turk Telekom and they coasted to victory over the last 10 minutes.

Courtney Eldridge led the home side with 17 points.
