Targoviste Tear Apart AEL In Romania


Municipal Targoviste avenged their season-opening setback at K.V. Imperial AEL on Thursday night to hit the Group H summit in the EuroCup Women.

The Romanian club, beaten 88-75 back on November 12 in Cyprus, thrashed AEL the second time 78-54.

Nkolika Anosike dominated for Targoviste, scoring 11 points and also pulling down 14 rebounds.

On top 21-20 nearly three minutes into the second quarter, the hosts made their move with Belarus international Tatyana Troina drilling a three-pointer.

The next trip down the floor, Gabriela Toma made a lay-up for a 26-20 advantage.

The home side ended up going to half-time with a 34-25 lead and they put the result beyond doubt in the third quarter when they outscored the Cypriot club 27-14.

Both sides are 3-1 in Group H, though Targoviste are in first courtesy of their superior goal differential in the two games they have played against each other.

Israel international Shay Doron poured in 21 points for Targoviste.

Biljana Pesovic finished with a team-high 18 for AEL.

Kursk dominate Samsun

In the other Group H game, Dynamo Kursk stormed to a 91-63 victory at Samsun Basketball in Turkey.

The visitors built a 20-12 lead by the end of the first quarter and stretched that to 47-30 by half-time.

They pressed home the advantage over the next 10 minutes, outscoring Samsun 26-16 and cruised the rest of the way.

Sandra Linkeviciene led the way with 26 points for Dynamo, who out-rebounded the hosts 46-24.

Kursk improved to 2-2 with the win while Samsun dropped to 0-4.

Athinaikos take revenge against Yerevan

In Group F, Sony Athinaikos edged a tight encounter at HATIS Yerevan, 87-79.

The home side had no answer for Latoya Davis, who powered her way up for 21 points and 14 rebounds.

HATIS had a dream start, building a 33-21 lead by the end of the first quarter but the Greek team overwhelmed them in the second.

They held HATIS to 11 second-quarter points while scoring 28 themselves for a 49-44 lead.

HATIS trailed by two early in the fourth quarter and were down by just six with 29 seconds to go when they fouled Candice Wiggins and the USA international made two at the stripe for the 87-79 final.

Dynamo too strong for Hapoel Hatikva

In Group G, Hapoel Hatikva Tel Aviv (0-4) suffered a 96-56 drubbing at home to Dynamo Moscow.

Anastasia Logunova poured in 18 points for the winners, who improved to 4-0.

Ruzomberok thrash Lemminkainen

In Group C, Ruzomberok rolled to a big 80-59 home triumph over Lemminkainen.

The Slovakian club, which got 17 points from Adriana Gresnerova, improved to 3-1 while Lemminkainen fell to 1-2.

Györ have no problems with Sierre

In Group A, Anna Vida scored 24 points as Seat Györ romped to an 81-67 victory over Sdent Sierre Basket.
