Pivotal Stretch For Violets In Germany

22 April 2010

BG Göttingen are preparing for one of the biggest weekends in the club's history.

The Violets are hosting the EuroChallenge Final Four.

Before the players can even think about their European Semi-Final with French juggernauts Roanne on April 30, however, they have three vital games in the Beko BBL.

John Patrick's side will have home games against Eisbären Bremerhaven on Friday, Eurocup finalists Alba Berlin on Sunday and Giants Düsseldorf on Tuesday.

Göttingen head into the stretch run needing wins to strengthen their grip on fourth place in the standings.

"I'm very excited about the games at the weekend and look forward to it," Patrick said.

Eisbären beat Göttingen 84-78 back in December and they also thrashed them two weekends ago at the 2010 BEKO BBL Top 4 in Frankfurt.

Not at full strength because of injuries, Patrick's side lost a close game to eventual Top 4 winners Brose Baskets Bamberg in the semi-finals before crashing to a 90-65 defeat to Eisbären.

"This is a completely different game in Göttingen," Eisbären coach Doug Spradley warned.

"To start with, BG is a different team than in Frankfurt since some of the injured players are back.

"We expect a heated atmosphere. The crowd in their arena is incredibly loud.

"We must adapt. We need 40 minutes of hard play with our full concentration."

Eisbären are eighth in the standings with 19 victories and 11 defeats.
