Polish outfit Energa Czarni led from start to finish in a 91-75 triumph over BK Ventspils in EuroChallenge action on Tuesday. Demetric Bennett had 19 points and five rebounds for the winners, who improved to 1-1 in Group A while dropping Latvians Ventspils to 0-2. Ventspils only trailed 19-17 late in the first quarter but Energe Czarni closed the first quarter on an 8-0 run. The home side extended the lead to 47-30 with 2:11 left in the first half only for Ventspils to go to the break trailing 49-37. The Baltic outfit briefly reduced the deficit to five early in the third quarter but ended up trailing 79-59 by the end of the frame as Czarni, who shot 13 of 27 from long range, pulled away for a big triumph. Jason Straight drilled four of six shots from behind the arc and finished with 18 points. Pavels Veselovs scored 18 and Janis Strelnieks 16 in defeat. |
