Flying Foxes brought Hainaut Basket's unbeaten run in the EuroCup Women to an end on Wednesday night in Austria. The Group D battle was played in Vienna and the hosts prevailed 62-53 with Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton scoring 13 points and corralling 10 rebounds. The Foxes started well and led 21-15 at the end of the opening quarter. They stretched that to 38-23 by half-time. Hainaut clawed their way back into the game, holding the hosts to just eight third-quarter points to trail 46-39 going to the last frame. Amisha Carter's two free-throws with 3:24 to go cut the gap to 55-51, but Jana Lichnerová replied for the Flying Foxes with a three-point play and they held on for their second victory of the campaign. The other Group D game saw Gran Canaria travel to Lithuania and record a 69-64 triumph over Lemminkainen. In the Arena of Neptunas in Klaipeda, Astou Ndour had 26 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Gran Canaria improved to 4-1 and Lemminkainen slumped to 0-5. Lotto Young Cats won 64-61 in a crunch Group B encounter in Belgium. Emma Meesseman had 10 points and 14 boards for the winners, who took the lead for good with 4:37 remaining when Jana Raman sank a jumper. The Young Cats managed to keep their noses in front the rest of the way, but had to make four free-throws in the last 15 seconds. The win improved the Belgian side's record to 3-2 and dropped Dynamo - GUVD to 2-3. There was also a Group C game played in Belgium between Dexia Namur and Nantes Reze. Ifunanya Ibekwe had 26 points and 10 rebounds as Dexia won 86-76 over Nantes. |
