Aris Holargou Storm To Victory, Cesis Survive In Zagreb

AKO Aris Holargou suffered a six-point defeat in the first leg of their Qualifying Round tie at Mladi Krajisnik but hit back with a vengeance on Thursday to advance to the Preliminary Round of the EuroCup Women.

The Greek side romped to an 87-53 win with Tamara Sanceri Bowie pouring in 25 points.

After closing the gap in the overall score to just one by the end of the first quarter, AKO Aris Holargou poured in 26 second-quarter points to just eight for Mladi Krajisnik to take command for good.

SK Cesis had some nervous moments during the second leg of their tie at ZKK Medvescak in Croatia.

They ended up losing 79-71 and that was good enough for the visitors to win the tie by nine points on aggregate.

The Croatians, looking to overcome a 17-point deficit from the first leg in Latvia, went in front by as many as 13 with less than three minutes remaining to shave the overall deficit they faced to just four.

SK Cesis held their nerve and avoided a big collapse to advance.

Mirna Mazic poured in 25 points for the Mladi Krajisnik while Elina Babkina, an Olympian with Latvia this summer, had 19 for Cesis.

French international Sandra Dijon also had a big game for Cesis with 17 points and five rebounds.

Tatiana Sergeeva had 19 points and eight rebounds as Spartak M.R. Noginsk rolled to a 80-54 win over BC Star-TLÜ. The result gave them 52-point triumph on aggregate.

Arvi Marijampole thrashed BBT Letzebuerg 80-45, their second consecutive big win in the tie.

Vaida Pacauskiene finished with 14 points and eight rebounds for the victors.

ZKK Crvena Zvezda defeated CSB CST Alexandria 61-57 to clinch overall victory in their tie by 13 points.

Tanja Miranovic top-scored for the Serbian side with 15.

Pallacanestro Ribera followed up their 18-point win in Sweden with a 73-48 triumph over O8 Stockholm HR.

Julied Page led the way for the Italian side by scoring 18 and pulling down eight rebounds.
