|If Gustavo Ayon agent's claims prove to be true, Fuenlabrada's already thin on the ground frontcourt could suffer a serious blow|
EuroChallenge outfit Fuenlabrada appear to be on the verge of losing one of their biggest weapons to the New Orleans Hornets with center Gustavo Ayon reportedly on his way to the NBA.
The Mexican big man's agent, Emilio Durán, has claimed that Ayon has reached a deal with the club.
Fuenlabrada, according to Durán, wanted to retain Ayon's services but the agent said to ESPN Deportes: "For him (Gustavo) has always been a dream to play in the NBA and represent his country (there)."
Mitch Kupchak, the general manager of the Los Angeles Lakers, had seen Ayon play last year on a visit to Europe and the Hornets had been interested in the Mexican in the summer.
According to Durán, both Indiana and Denver were also interested in signing Ayon.
For the player to exercise a get-out clause at Fuenlabrada, though, the club needs to receive $1.5million.
Fuenlabrada have only just reached a settlement with the Charlotte Bobcats which allows the Spanish club's former teenage center, Bismack Biyombo, to leave for the NBA team.
According to the Bobcats, Fuenlabrada had sought 4 million Euros but ultimately accepted 1.5 million dollars for Biyombo.
Biyombo played alongside Ayon last season and was a lottery pick in this summer's NBA Draft by the Bobcats.
Ayon was named Player of the Month for November in the Liga Endesa and has averaged 15.9 points and 8.2 rebounds in 10 Spanish top flight games.
The club finished second in Group A of the EuroChallenge with a 4-2 record and qualified for the Last 16.
Ayon had left Mexicans Halcones UV Xalapa in March of 2009 for Spain after signing a four-year contract with Fuenlabrada.
