|Turkey's Ayse Cora led all scorers with 12 points in a low-scoring game |
Turkey and Serbia, two very talented teams, were so nervous in the game for 7th place at the Global Vision U18 European Championship that one would have thought there was something far more important at stake.
But even at the end of a poor game, not represantative of the true worth of the two opponents, there has to be a winner and Turkey assumed this role, 47-42.
The two opponents missed a combined 99 shots from a total of 130 attempts from the field, committed a total of 43 turnovers and each one of them managed to score in double digits in only two quarters of the game.
Turkey won thanks mainly to their 20-point offensive showing in the last quarter of the game, after holding their opponents to only nine points in that span.
They used a 10-0 run in the start of the last period to take the lead back from the Serbians, who were leading 33-27 at the third buzzer, and did not let go till the end.
Ayse Cora scored six points during that run and led the Turkish team with 12 points, while Gizem Sezer had eight points and 13 rebounds.
Ivana Brajkovic had 10 points and 13 rebounds in Serbia's losing effort.
