Belgium topped Group C of the Preliminary Round at the Global Vision U18 European Championship Women after winning the deciding game for first place against Serbia, 60-41.
Coming in the game with the third best defense of the competition, after Spain and France, the Serbians had their worst game defensively.
They lost control of the game in the second quarter and they never got a chance to level the situation on the scoreboard.
After a balanced, but low scoring start, Belgium had 14 points in a row in the second period, to make it 23-9.
They had their own drought, and went scoreless in the last three minutes before halftime, but Serbia didn't manage to come closer than eight points, 23-15.
The lead ballooned in the third quarter when Julie Vanloo and Emma Meesseman started hitting shots from everywhere and Belgium players had all smiles on their faces at the end of the game.
They will take this important victory to the Qualifying Round, as well as the one against Italy, both increasing their chances to win a place in the quarter-finals.
Vanloo and Meesseman were too much for the Serbian defense with 22 points combined.
Meesseman completed a double-double with 15 rebounds, and added two steals and two blocks.
Emese Vida was the only shining star for Serbia, with nine points and six rebounds.
