Czechs Get First Win

With the Czech Republic winning on Wednesday, every team at the Dadu U16 European Championship Men has now recorded a win.

In the third day of action in the elimination round, the Czechs entered the day as the only team yet to record a victory but with other players stepping up to assist the tournament's leading scorer, Matej Svoboda, the Czech Republic were able to hold on to defeat Slovenia 79-66.

Trailing by 21 points midway through the second frame, Slovenia fought back to be within six points with four minutes remaining. However, Petr Czudek's team remain composed to complete the win.

Svoboda picked up nine final-quarter points to finish with 23. David Skranc recorded a 19-point, 13 rebound double-double.

Domen Janc had 16 points for the Slovenes.

In the day's earlier game, Russia went on a 16-2 scoring run at the end of the third quarter to hold off England 68-57 and record their second victory of the elimination round.

Prior to the run, the English had been causing problems for the Russians, even leading by as much as 12 points midway through the opening frame.

Alexander Gavrilov lead scoring for Russia with 14 points whilst Maxim Morozov ended with a 12-point, 13-rebound double-double.

Joe Mvuezolo topped English scoring 11 points.
