By David HeinAnastasiya Shilova and Anastasia Logunova combined for 41 points to lead Russia into the semi-finals of the U20 European Championship for Women with a comfortable 92-72 victory over Serbia in the first quarter-final match.
Shilova had 21 points and Logunova collected 20 points, six rebounds and five assists to set up a semi-final showdown with the winner between Lithuania and France. Tatiana Petrushina added 17 points and Anna Ostroukhova chipped in 14 points.
Serbia lost despite Sara Krnjic's 15 points while Sanja Orozovic had 13 points, Nevena Jovanovic hit for 12 and Jelena Jovanovic had 11.
The first quarter in Liepaja was a back-and-forth affair with nine lead changes and four ties. The biggest lead was three points for Russia, who trailed 20-19 after one period.
The Russians pulled away in the second quarter with a 10-0 run early in the period and a 15-3 surge late in building a 53-36 lead at the break.
Russia put the game away for good early in the third quarter with a 12-1 spurt for a 65-39 advantage. Coach Dmitry Donskov's team increased the lead to 28 points - 74-46.
The cushion grew to 29 points in the fourth quarter.
