U18 Men Preparations

Serbia have received a big boost ahead of the U18 European Championship in Wroclaw, Poland, with head coach Marko Ichelic announcing that three players who won silver at the U19 FIBA World Championship in Latvia are to join his team.

Luka Mitrovic, Nemanja Krstic and Nemanja Dangubic have been added to Serbia's preliminary squad.

"This will be huge boost for our team as we are now stronger, and level of our ambitions become higher as well," Ichelic said.

Mitrovic, a power forward who averaged 7.4 points and 4.3 rebounds in Latvia, is the newcomer to have received most of the playing time in Latvia.

Krstic is a small forward who averaged one point and 0.7 rebounds while shooting guard Dangubic averaged 1.3 points per game.

Krstic and Dangubic were reserves in the under-19 squad.

"In our final phase of preparation, we'll face some university national teams like Hungary," Ichelic said.

"Our rivals will be four or five years older, and some of them are already participating in senior competitions.

"We'll do our best to fit newcomers into our scheme, and their experience will be very important for others."

Another Serbian player born in 1993 who played at the U19 World Championship, all-tournament selection Aleksandar Cvetkovic, was considered as for the under-18 team as well but the playmaker and best scorer of the national team has been told to take a well-deserved break.

"There was a possibility to have Cvetkovic with us, also, but since he went through tough period, we've decided to let him rest," Ichelic said.

Serbia will face Finland, Germany and Turkey in the first phase of U18 European Championship, which starts in Poland on July 21.

Preliminary squad of Serbia: Luka Mitrovic, Nemanja Krstic, Nemanja Dangubic, Andrija Bojic, Sasa Avramovic, Nemanja Bezradica, Strahinja Gavrilovic, Nikola Jankovic, Vasilije Micic, Nenad Miljenovic, Djordje Milosevic, Nemanja Miskovic, Stefan Popovski Turanjanin, Nikola Radicevic and Stefan Zecevic.
