Serbia Use Late Run To Beat Slovenia

Serbia used a late run to pull away from Slovenia for an 81-73 victory in the Qualifying Round Group E of the U18 European Championship Men.

Nemanja Dangubic and Dorde Milosevic each scored 15 points and Luka Mitrovic hit for 14 points while Nenad Milosevic collected nine points and seven assists for Serbia, who improved to 2-1 in the group.

Ziga Dimec had 26 points and nine rebounds while Luka Rupnik collected 22 points, five rebounds and six assists in a losing effort for Slovenia, who dropped to 0-3.

Serbia scored the first eight points of the game and led 16-9 before the Slovenians closed the quarter on a 10-2 surge for a 19-18 lead after one period.

The game was back and forth in the second quarter with seven lead changes. Serbia put together a seven-point lead (35-28) but led only 40-38 at the break.

Neither team could pull away as there were four ties and two more lead changes in the third quarter. Slovenia, who led 48-45 at one point, trailed 60-57 after three periods.

Serbia finally put away the Slovenians in the fourth quarter with a 15-4 run in the final seven minutes for an 81-70 advantage late.
