Belarus held on for a 76-74 win over England in Sunday's Final of the U18 European Championship for Women Division B while Portugal gained promotion with a 68-57 victory over Hungary in the battle for third place.

Belarus and Hungary had already clinched promotion by winning their respective Semi-Finals.

The Portuguese will join them in the top flight after winning a thriller.

They trailed Hungary 55-54 with 4:00 remaining but Josephine Filipe hit a jumper and followed that with two free-throws to put them in front to stay.

Filipe finished with a game-high 19 points while teammate Maria Kostourkova had 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Amadea Szamosi had a great game in defeat with 15 points and 11 boards for Hungary.

In the Final, England were in front 67-62 with 6:30 remaining but couldn't protect the lead.

Belarus moved ahead when Maryia Papova drilled a jump shot to make it 68-67 with 4:45 to go.

Emiliya Kulbitskaya stretched the advantage to 71-67 with a three-ball.

England didn't go away and closed the gap to 76-74 with 50 seconds to play when Ashleigh Munns hit a jump shot on a fast break.

Shequila Joseph twice attempted to tie the game but had her lay-up blocked by Hanna Kalenta and she then missed with a hook shot.

Bulgaria clinched fifth place with a 79-45 victory over Denmark.

Iva Kostova of Bulgaria was a one-woman wrecking crew, scoring 31 points, corralling eight rebounds, handing out five assists, coming up with six steals and swatting four shots.

Ieva Kazlauskaite poured in 16 points as Lithuania defeated Germany 72-66 to come in seventh.

Latvia finished ninth after a 73-32 victory over Austria, and Finland edged Ukraine 74-72 to end up 11th.

Israel won the battle for 13th place with a 70-52 win over Montenegro, F.Y.R. of Macedonia defeated Norway to come in 15th and Switzerland prevailed over Scotland 53-46 to end up 17th.
