Montenegro remain perfect in Group D following a 67-54 win over Turkey at Osnovna Skola Jugoslavija in Bar, Montenegro on Friday night.
As a result of this win the local team grabbed a 2-0 record at the top of the group and clinched a spot in the Qualifying Round while Turkey fell to 1-1 before the deciding day of the group.
The next day Montenegro will hope to stay unbeaten when they take on Russia, while Turkey will try to secure their spot in the Qualifying Round when they take on Israel.
The two favorites of the group went head-to-head and the 13 point gap win by Montenegro give them a great advantage down the road.
The gap was created already in the first minutes, as Turkey never held the lead and had to chase Montenegro for 40 minutes, also to avoid a big blow out.
Nikola Zizic was the top scorer of the winners with 14 points, Dusan Perovic added 12 and Nikola Ivanovic added 10 .
Burak Haciismail and Tayfun Erülkü scored 10 points each but the latter hit most of them in the garbage time and added five assists earlier.
With the support of the local fans Montenegro made a big push right from the start and climbed to a 9-0 lead already after four minutes.
Turkey finally broke the spell, but the locals shared points between several players, and regained the nine point lead to take a 17-8 gap at the end of the first quarter.
Zizic started to collect points and Milos Pajovic joined forces to score all his nine points before the half, but Turkey had Haciismail to keep them in close distance and walk off to the rest down just 34-27.
Ivanovic joined Zizic to keep Montenegro in safe distance and block any attempt of the Turks to move closer, and complicate the game for the hosts.
Two minutes of drought early in the 4th helped Montenegro to keep the status-quo and Zizic scored four to push the gap up to 17, 57-40 inside the last minutes of the game.
Before the buzzer Turkey tried to avoid a big loss that might complicate things down the road, but eventually lost by 13, and will try to cover for that later on, yet first they'll have to make it to the Qualifying Round.
