U20 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
The U20 European Championship came close to witness another huge upset, but Montenegro managed to edge Sweden 80-78 in Group E of the competition.
Montenegro climb to 2-1 and are strong in the race to the Quarter-Finals while Sweden dropped to 0-3 at the bottom of the group.
Bojan Dubljevic had another monster double-double, this time with 34 points and 12 rebounds while Marko Todorovic added 10 points and 8 boards.
Christopher Czerapowicz led Sweden in points - 20, rebounds - 7, assists - 4 and added also 3 steals. Andreas Person finished with 19 points and Viktor Godefors had 12.
The team of Montenegro saw a better start in the second quarter to take a 31-18 lead and later reached a 14-point difference, yet Daniel Persson carried Sweden back to the game, enough to finish the first half just 11 points behind, 47-36.
Czerapowicz was on fire in the third quarter and scored 10 points in less than five minutes to make it just a two point game and put the pressure on Montenegro.
Sweden never managed to take over the lead, but stayed just a step or two behind.
A jumper by Czerapowicz set the score on 77-75 with 3:35 to play, yet both sides failed to score for the next three minutes.
Dubljevic scored around the rim only to see Person hit a three pointer with 26 seconds to play and just a single point gap.
Montenegro saw a single point from the foul line by Milutin Dukanovic and Sweden had the last 11 seconds to complete the upset, but Person missed twice from the line and Charles Barton didn't connect the buzzer-beater from the arc.
Tomorrow Montenegro will take on unbeatable France while Sweden will face Russia.
