|Glory Bassey Johnson had a stellar performance to lead Chevakata past BLMA|
The Eighth-Finals of EuroCup Women are beginning to take shape after Chevakata and Dynamo Moscow both sealed a place in the last sixteen of the competition on Wednesday night.
With Basket Lattes Montpellier Agglomeration already qualified in Group A, Chevakata had a big opportunity in front of them to capitalise on any potential malaise from the French visitors.
And, a strong opening gave them the cushion they desperately needed in a nervy finish as they squeezed out a memorable 69-67 win in front of over 2,000 jubilant supporters.
The hero for the home side was Glory Johnson who amassed a stellar 34 points with Geraldine Robert racking up 21 points for Montpellier.
There were also celebrations in the Russian capital, as an MVP performance from Kristi Toliver helped WBC Dynamo Moscow claim a 66-51 win against Basket Landes.
The guard had 19 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals as a strong finish to the game finally killed off the visitors who can still progress in an exciting Group G which has Landes in a three-way tie with Partizan Galenika and VS Prague.
The Czech side headed to Belgrade and inflicted a third straight defeat on the home team with a vibrant 78-61 blowout, controlling the contest from tip to buzzer.
Marshae Dotson and Karolina Elhotova were in great shooting form and combined for 44 points although it was a great team performance from the VS Prague players who conjured an excellent 24 assists.
Mersin took a huge stride towards booking their place with an 80-68 victory over still winless Belfius Namur in Group C. They were powered by an excellent performance by Great Britain national team forward Chantelle Handy who had 23 points and nine rebounds whilst Shavonte Zellous chipped in with 18 points.
The Turkish team will qualify for sure inside the space of 24 hours - if Tarbes can do them a big favour by claiming a victory at Spartak Noginsk.
