Tartu Rock overcame an early deficit to open their EuroChallenge Group G campaign with a 58-53 win over WBC Raiffeisen Wels. When Davor Lamesic hit a three-pointer to snap a 10-10 tie midway through the first quarter, he sparked a 13-2 Wels run that put the Austrian visitors on top 23-12 at the start of the second quarter. But Tartu would slowly chip away at Wels' advantage, reeling off seven straight late in the second quarter to close within two, 27-25, eventually drawing level in the third quarter when Scott Morrison's jump-shot made it 31-31. The teams continued to trade the lead and the scores were tied 40-40 with 9:08 to go when Bruce Fields made a three-pointer for Wels. But Tartu then took control with an 11-3 run, highlighted by Silver Leppik's three-pointer and a Morrison dunk, that made it 51-43. Wels tried to rally, but could get no closer than five down the stretch as Tartu got the job done. Morrison scored a game-high 17 points while adding eight rebounds, with Leppik contributing 12 points and Janar Talts had 10. Lamesic scored 12 points for Wels while Matthew Nelson added 10 and Jason Conley had 11 rebounds. |
