Liege Strike Back To Take Top Spot

Adrian Banks poured in 29 points and Michael Green filled up the box score with 18 points, six rebounds and 11 assists as Belgacom Liege came from behind to defeat BC Donetsk 81-89 in the battle for first place in Group E of the EuroChallenge.

Liege had trailed for much of the first half, with hosts Donetsk twice moving nine points clear, but after pulling back level in the third quarter, Liege dominated the fourth to take control.

The decisive run actually began in the final seconds of the third quarter, Green's three-pointer breaking a 62-62 tie, and sparking an 11-2 run that gave Liege a lead they would never surrender.

Donetsk did their best to respond, with back-to-back baskets from Haywood Owens slicing the lead to five, 73-68.

But Banks responded with a lay-up and a three-pointer to put the cushion back to 10, 78-68, and this time Donetsk had no response.

Will Thomas also reached double figures for Liege with 14, while Andrija Stipanovic had 12.

Anthony Tucker let Donetsk with 19 points, while Marque Perry and Artur Drozdov had 13 each.
