Muiznieks Turns Riga Into Title Town

When Barons LMT Riga picked Coach Karlis Muiznieks to lead them last summer they were probably hoping he would bring with him some of his winning mentality.

Muiznieks was one of the best Latvian players during the 1990's and played a couple of times in EuroBasket with the national team in addition to winning local titles.

Gustas Takes Home Final Four MVP

The 2008 edition of the EuroCup Final Four presented five players who stood out in the two game days of the competition and were named to the All-Tournament team.

The trophy lifters from Riga - Barons LMT sent two representatives, including the MVP while the finalist from Belgium - Dexia Mons-Hainaut are represented by two as well, while hosts Proteas EKA AEL finalize the group of five.

Barons Edge Dexia In Thriller To Win EuroCup Title

Barons LMT Riga are the 2008 EuroCup champion after beating Dexia Mons-Hainaut 63-62 in a thrilling finals in Limassol, Cyprus on Sunday night.

The champs bring the first European title ever to Latvia as an independent country, and Riga will have a good reason to celebrate tonight. The last Latvian team to win a title was ASK Riga back in 1960.

Final Outcome Will Be A History Maker

Dexia Mons-Hainaut of Belgium and Barons LMT of Latvia will meet today (20:00 CET) in the finals of the 2008 EuroCup, after registering big wins in the semi-final matches.

Dexia shocked local favorites Proteas AEL with a 70-55 win while Barons came back from an 18 point deficit against Tartu-Rock in the first game to capture an 88-82 win.
