NEWSCherkaski Mavpy had a bittersweet taste of victory on Tuesday when they won for the third time in six EuroCup Qualifying Round games by beating Banvit 87-81 but failed to progress to the next stage of the competition. Mavpy jumped out to a 26-18 first-quarter lead and stormed to victory. However, they finished third in Group B behind Ural Great and Dexia Mons-Hainaut. |

It took four games but Banvit finally broke into the Group B win column in the EuroCup on Tuesday with a 71-70 home win over leaders Ural Great. Christopher Hill had 17 points and five rebounds for Banvit while Alexander Bashminov had a game-high 21 points and seven boards in defeat. |

Cherkaski Mavpy opened up a big half-time lead but then had to hold on for dear life to upset Banvit 90-88 in the EuroCup on Monday.
After a very turbulent start to 2008 - Cherkaski parted with Lebanon international Fadi El-Khatib and also replaced coach Andriy Podkovyrov with his assistant, Volodymyr Kholopov - Mavpy needed a win after two straight defeats to start Group B. |
