Banvit avenged their defeat to Azovmash in the opening round of the EuroCup by winning in Balikesir on Wednesday, 84-82.
Marque Perry had 29 points, five assists and two steals as the Turkish side won for the third time in four games, leaving them level on seven points with Group C leaders Lokomotiv Rostov.
Azovmash started well and led 22-13 late in the first quarter after Kenan Bajramovic's two made free throws.
That would prove to be the biggest advantage either side would hold in the contest.
The hosts reeled off nine straight points to draw level at 22-22 early in the second period, and trailed 42-40 at half-time.
In the second half, Banvit began to seize the initiative, and a Perry jumper gave them their biggest lead at 53-47 three and a half minutes after the restart.
But just as Azovmash were unable to pull away, so it was for Banvit.
The fourth quarter was so close that it had eight lead changes, with the visitors in front for the final time at 78-77 with 3:33 to go after Andriy Botichev's jump shot.
Serhiy Lishchuk twice pulled his team to level terms, making two free throws with 2:24 to go to make it 80-80, and then burying a jumper with 1:55 to play to tie the scores at 82-82.
Only two more points would be scored the rest of the way, and those were free throws by Damien Kinloch with 1:39 to play.
Khalid El-Amin had a team-high 26 points for the Ukrainians, but he missed a three-pointer at the other end and Banvit rebounded.
After Perry's shot was off target for the hosts, Azovmash had another chance but Slaven Rimac missed with a jumper and again, Banvit rebounded.
The visitors got one more opportunity to pull level, or reclaim the lead after Onur Aydin's miss for Banvit.
But with three seconds to go, the ball found its way into the hands of Igor Loktionov and the forward, who was making his first appearance in the EuroCup this season, missed.
The home side rebounded to seal victory.
Banvit, beaten 69-60 in Mariupol when these two sides met in the opening round, shot the ball very well from long range.
They made nine of 16 (56.3%), with Perry draining three of four (75%) in his points haul. |
